When Triumph World Magazine asked us to restore their latest project car for a series of magazine features, we were delighted! A tatty TR7 duly arrived at our workshop and on initial inspection the project didn't look too bad. It definitely needed a doorskin, possibly two, a couple of front wings, rear arch repairs and a few plates and patches.

However, as is so often the case, once we started removing panels, we discovered several horrors beneath. The driver's side of the car faired pretty well and just needed the front wing, door skin rear arch repair and a few pieces fabricated and welded. The passenger side was a different story! The inner wheel arch, inner wing, and front of the inner and outer sill (hidden by the wing) were severely corroded and had big bits missing. The pictures below show quite how bad this was. What's really scary is that because this was hidden, the car was fully road legal!

Sourcing parts for older cars can be a bit of a nightmare and we are used to having to make various panel sections. Rimmer's who sponsored the parts for the project came up trumps with most panels but the front section of the outer sill was no longer available, so ace metal worker Jason set about making one. After several months
and literally hundreds of hours of had work, the 7 was finally ready for
primer and then paint.

We revamped all the door latches, and fittings etc along with bumpers and trims.

All that remained then was to reassemble and give back to Triumph World in time to have pride of place on their stand at the Classic Car show at Birmingham NEC 14th-17th November 2008.

The Show at the NEC was a fantastic success and the car was greatly admired. Famous visitors included Mike Brewer and Ed China, Jason's heros!
The car had been offered a prize in a competition, which I was asked to draw. Later I handed the keys to the lucky and delighted winner, Graham Martin at the Kelsey Publications offices in Peterborough.
